The South end of Main Street was the first section of the historic district to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and contains the oldest and smallest and earliest properties, some dating to the 18th century, while the North end of Main contains larger commercial structures mainly dating after the Civil War through WWI, with an Art Deco building or two in the mix.
